NEWS

National Network for Brownfields Practitioners and Stakeholders

To further support brownfield redevelopment across Canada, efforts are currently underway to develop an Ontario Brownfield Association (OBA) that will work in partnership with the Canadian Brownfields Network (CBN). This network and association will build on recommendations from the National Round Table on the Environment and Economy’s report, National Brownfield Redevelopment Strategy for Canada.

The objective of the CBN is to provide a forum for communication and discussion that will create linkages and connectivity, build capacity, coordinate the exchange of ideas and expertise, and accelerate brownfield redevelopment.

The OBA will be developed by a Steering Committee comprised of TEDCO (Toronto Economic Development Corporation), aboutREMEDIATION.com, CUI (Canadian Urban Institute), and the City of Hamilton. This province-wide organization will be dedicated to supporting brownfield professionals and redevelopment initiatives both public and private.

The CBN will be developing strategic alliances with industry association and other organizations that have a vested interest in brownfield redevelopment in Canada. Supporting organizations include: ONEIA (Ontario Environmental Industry Association), CEAA (Canadian Environmental Auditing Association), OPPI (Ontario Professional Planners Institute), CRESTech, RÉSEAU environnement and the Ontario Brownfields Association.

The CBN will be officially launched on March 1, 2004. For more details, visit www.canadianbrownfieldsnetwork.ca.
