Brownfields RSC rule removes key barrier to redevelopment 6/24/2004
A new brownfields regulation (153/04) relating to the filing of a record of site condition (RSC) under Ontario's Environmental Protection Act will remove a key barrier to redeveloping brownfields by resolving the previous lack of clarity regarding brownfield property owners' environmental liability. Regulation 153/04 brings into effect provisions of the Brownfields Statute Law Amendment Act, 2001 providing property owners general protection from future environmental cleanup orders after they have appropriately cleaned up a site (Full Story)

Todd Latham of EcoLog ERIS was one of a number of speakers at The Natural City Conference, June 23-25, 2004, at the University of Toronto.  The Conference had over 90 speakers from around the world that discussed how urban and  natural environments must be integrated in order to promote sustainability.  Robert F. Sask Centenary Fund successfully concludes site cleanup program [6/16/2004]
Saskatchewan Environment has successfully completed its four-year program to clean up contaminated sites. The $6.5-million initiative, paid for by the Provincial Centenary Fund, cleaned up six high-risk contaminated sites and implemented a program to clean up abandoned service stations. "I'm pleased to acknowledge the cleanup work carried out under the Centenary Fund, which recognizes the province's 100th anniversary and government's commitment to a green and prosperous economy," said Environment Minister David Forbes.
