Brownfields 2003: The Changing Landscape

The Canadian Urban Institute and the City of Kitchener presented the "Brownfields 2003: The Changing Landscape" conference in Kitchener, Ontario on October 23, 2003. This year's conference was held at the Kaufman Building, a fine example of a revitalized brownfield, as it was formerly a footwear manufacturing facility. The annual conference is a showcase for brownfielders seeking to learn about innovations in professional practice, share ideas, and get updates on legislation across the country. About 350 representatives from government and industry attended informative sessions on a variety of topics, including: changes in the regulatory landscape, innovation in community building, strategies for investing, risk management, and case studies of successful brownfields projects. The conference once again recognized leadership, innovation and environmental sustainability initiatives through “Brownie Awards.”
